A LITTLE SETUP. A LOT MORE MAKING.

Arrive ready.
Leave inspired.

Let’s spend our two hours creating. Before the workshop, choose one AI coding tool, install it on the laptop you’ll bring, and complete the tiny test below.

You need an active paid subscription for this workshop. It’s separate from the €10 cash workshop fee. You don’t need to buy both tools.

OPTION 01 · ANTHROPIC

Claude + Claude Code

Claude is Anthropic’s AI assistant. In its desktop app, Chat is for conversation; Code works with a project’s files. Use the Code tab for this workshop.

What to install

Download Claude Desktop ↗

  • Mac: use the universal installer for Intel or Apple Silicon.
  • Windows: choose x64 or ARM64 for your processor.
  • Linux: the beta supports Ubuntu/Debian installation. Follow the official Linux instructions.

Finish setup

  1. Install and open Claude. Sign in to your Anthropic account with a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription.
  2. Open Code. Complete any sign-in prompts; restart if requested.
  3. Choose Local, then select a new, empty project folder.
  4. Run the website test below. Review and approve the requested file changes.

The desktop Code tab includes Claude Code; you don’t need a separate CLI or Node.js installation just to use it.

OPTION 02 · OPENAI

Codex

Codex is OpenAI’s coding agent: it helps write, review, and debug code. Current official desktop instructions put Codex inside the ChatGPT desktop app.

What to install

Official desktop download & setup ↗

  • Mac: the download on that page is labelled Apple Silicon. On an Intel Mac, choose Claude’s universal Mac app instead.
  • Windows: use the official Windows download guide. Keep the default native Windows setup; complete any sandbox prompts before class.
  • Linux: follow the official Linux preview guide for supported Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Arch versions and x64/ARM64 packages.

Finish setup

  1. Install and open the desktop app. Sign in with your ChatGPT account.
  2. Use a paid plan with Codex access, such as ChatGPT Plus. See current plans and limits.
  3. Choose Codex, open a new project folder, and start a new chat.
  4. Complete first-launch prompts, then run the website test below.

Use the official download page for your OS. If its installer doesn’t match your computer, choose the compatible Claude option and test it beforehand.

YOUR FIVE-MINUTE DRESS REHEARSAL

Make something tiny, before you arrive.

Create an empty folder called workshop-test. Open it in your chosen coding tool, then try this prompt:

Create a simple personal website in one index.html file, with a heading saying “Hello, I’m ready!”, a short paragraph, and a colourful background. Use plain HTML and CSS with no dependencies. Save it in this folder and show me how to open it in my browser.

Review the requested changes. Open the saved page in your browser, then ask the tool to change the background colour. Check that the page updates. This verifies that your account can actually create and edit files—not just chat.

If the app asks to install a required component, finish that setup now and repeat the test. If you get stuck, resolve it before workshop day using the official guide for your tool. Bring your charger and make sure you can sign back in.

Your ready-to-build checklist

These checkboxes are just for you; they aren’t sent or saved.
